Answers to common questions about using Wink.
Wink is a community and rights platform for LGBTQ+ people, their families, and allies. You can share experiences in the feed, join communities, read plain-language rights guides, and support one another. It is a community space — not a dating app.
Instead of a single "like", posts use community reactions: Support, Helpful, and Solidarity. Tap one to show how a post landed with you. You can also comment and save posts.
Open the Communities tab to browse groups like Know Your Rights, Workplace Equality, Coming Out Support, and more. Tap a community to see its posts, pinned notes, and rules, then Join or Leave anytime.
The Rights tab has plain-language guides on workplace, school, healthcare, housing, harassment, and privacy. You can search and save guides. Guides are general information, not legal advice.
Under Rights → Document an incident, you can privately record something that happened, with a date, place, and description. These entries stay on your device — they are never posted to the feed or sent to authorities. They are there to help you keep a record and find support.
You can only be messaged by people you follow or share a community with. New chats start as a message request you can accept or decline. There is no random or anonymous matching.
Every post has a menu to report or block its author, and every conversation lets you mute, block, or report. Blocking hides that person's posts and stops them from reaching you. We remove violating content and users.
Your profile shows your name, optional pronouns, bio, supported topics, and communities. Pronouns are completely optional — pick one, write your own, or choose "prefer not to say". Edit anything anytime from the Profile tab.
Tap the camera badge on your avatar in Edit profile to take a new photo or choose one from your library. Photos are stored locally on your device. You'll be asked for Camera or Photo Library permission the first time.
When composing a post, tap the microphone to dictate with your voice — your speech is converted to text. This uses microphone and speech recognition permissions, which you can manage in Settings.
Turn notifications on to hear about replies, message requests, and community activity. You can enable or disable them anytime in your device Settings.
You can delete your posts and incident-log entries in the App. Deleting the App removes all on-device data. To request deletion of account data, email us below.
